Volunteer Service Award (VSA)
As of May 27, 2025, AmeriCorps has paused the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) indefinitely, halting new award orders and Certifying Organization approvals. This has left many schools and service programs scrambling for ways to continue recognizing the incredible impact of their student volunteers.
We are excited to announce that the EVHS PTSA will continue the Volunteer Service Award (VSA) for the 2024–2025 school year! This year, we are partnering with www.HelperHelper.com to provide National Service Honor certificates and medals in recognition of our students’ outstanding volunteer efforts. The National Service Honor is a Trusted, Verified Alternative program that follows similar criteria to the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA), including age-based requirements and service hour thresholds.
EVHS PTSA is proud to be certified to grant National Service Honor Awards and Certificates to eligible EVHS students. These awards recognize students for their unpaid acts of service that benefit others, as defined under the program’s guidelines. Eligible volunteer service must be completed within 12 months from August 1 to July 31, and awards are based on the total hours served during that time.
-
Eligible volunteer service does not include:
- – Hours as part of student/school club activities
- – Donating funds
- – Political lobbying (Non-partisan voter registration is an eligible activity)
- – Religious instruction
- – Conducting worship service
- – Proselytizing
- – Volunteer service performed as part of court-ordered community service
- – Serving only family members
- – Unpaid internships
Examples of best practices for student volunteers when submitting volunteer certificates are here.
